Charlotte Song Xinrong has earned a spot in Tencent China with an NUS MSc HCMA.

For Charlotte Song Xinrong, she embarked on the course so that she could gain an edge in human capital management.

“The NUS MSc HCMA programme helped me build a strong foundation in analytics and behavioural competency. It also gave me the opportunity to engage with individuals from various backgrounds and sharpen my communication and industry-relevant skills,” Charlotte explained, shedding light on her experiences. “I have also become more agile and aware of the real business scenarios. This will put me in good stead amid the imminent disruption that AI may cause in this industry.”

Today, she is working for Tencent in China, reflecting the global relevance of the programme’s curriculum. In her new role in people analytics, she utilises data to help people discover what makes them unique and helps organisations align their talent strategies, thus making a positive impact on both individuals and businesses alike. “Everyone has a diverse and enriching persona and background, and the process of exploring and combining this with the data to produce analysis is immensely fulfilling.”

Tran Nguyen is now based in Vietnam, assuming an analytics role at Deloitte Consulting SEA.

Tran Nguyen’s journey is equally remarkable. Her transition from a talent acquisition role at PwC to a Regional Talent Acquisition Analytics Specialist at Deloitte Consulting SEA was made possible by the NUS MSc HCMA programme, which equipped her with analytics skills.

Reflecting on her journey, Tran is grateful for the programme’s up-to-date knowledge, skill sets and vision which have proven invaluable in her work.

“The NUS MSc HCMA programme has allowed me to think outside the box, and challenge myself with new ideas,” Tran said. “It has also helped me redefine my career path and where I should be heading to fulfil my dreams.”

When asked about the three most important competencies for young HR leaders, Tran emphasised the significance of business acumen, digital acumen, and communication skills.

“To be a successful HR leader, it is crucial to have a good understanding of the business context and pain points, to be data and technology-driven, and to possess strong communication skills that allow you to influence stakeholders,” Tran elaborated.

Dr Wu Pei Chuan, Academic Director of the MSc HCMA programme, have these words of encouragement for her graduands, “Have the courage to challenge the status quo, never stop learning, never settle for an easy solution and continue to make meaningful contributions to organisations, people, and society through your HR expertise.”
