NUS Biz Students Spring Forward Into the New Year With Engage Internship Fair

Some 600 students explored internship opportunities at the school’s Engage Internship Fair 2023, held from 17 to 19 January at the Mochtar Riady Building atrium. One of BIZCareers’ flagship student outreach events, the fair returned to an in-person setting after two years of the pandemic.

“The event has been a wonderful experience as I was able to learn first-hand about the various roles in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), retail and healthcare industries. In addition, it has provided valuable exposure in interacting with top companies and a chance to clarify our queries,” said Shermaine Ong (BBA Year 2), who attended the fair.

These students met recruiters from 34 organisations which hail from verticals such as infocomm technology, finance, transport, FMCG, retail and healthcare. Besides learning about available internship roles, students also build their network of industry contacts.

The feedback has been positive. “I loved how I better understood the various companies’ cultures, their industries, and how their products empower consumers. It was a great opportunity to network as well, and I had the chance to speak to Armina from Reckitt, who shared more about the roles and culture at the firm,” added Shermaine.

Vaness Sow (BBA Year 2) said, “The opportunities to engage and interact with the employers gave me a deeper understanding of the companies’ working culture. I have also developed an interest in companies I wasn’t familiar with, such as Aspire, Helicap and Seamoney. The fair provided students with a platform to interact and network, while the employers were all super friendly and more than happy to answer our questions.”

A physical fair is an opportunity for students to converse with organisations face-to-face, said Enna Tan, Head, BIZCareers. “Our students get to enjoy up-close-and-personal interactions with recruiters and put what they have learnt in career workshops to practice. This will hone their networking skills and delivery of personal elevator pitches.”
