Global Network Week: Discovering Singapore Airlines

On the third day of Global Network Week, we welcomed Nicholas Ionides, Divisional Vice President Public Affairs of Singapore Airlines who spoke about the company, introducing its history, organisational structure and corporate strategy.

Singapore Airlines has one of the youngest aircraft fleets among the world’s airlines, averaging some seven years. Some airlines would even have aircraft that are up to 20 years old. There are numerous benefits to having a young fleet. For instance, a young aircraft would break down less and is easier to maintain.

The airline’s trump card would be its service excellence. This is reflected in the management’s drive to maintain the high service standards that Singapore Airlines is known for. The duration of the airline’s cabin crew training programme is twice the industry average.
