Cross-border Trade and Value Chains in Southeast Asia

The business landscape across Southeast Asia presents multinational enterprises with both enormous rewards and challenges. Cross-border value chains require strategic planning and sound risk management practices. To have a viable roadmap for cross-border commercial operations in the ASEAN Economic Community, decision-makers must take into account existing value chain trends as well as anticipate the next wave of disruptions.

Programme Director, Visiting Senior Fellow Alex Capri says participants will explore and discuss how key trends in Asia are transforming the business, political and social  landscape, and how this will impact them in their daily lives. With digital disruption, not only is it creating new opportunities, there are also risks. Hence, the workshop will help students apply new knowledge for positive growth.

He adds, “The course is particularly important for both private companies and government officials since today’s challenges require extensive public-private partnerships. Bringing together policy makers and entrepreneurs in this workshop creates an excellent environment for collaboration  and open sourcing of ideas.”

Since the inaugural run of the programme in 2017, this year’s course will also have fresh updates and the latest insights on the Comprehensive & Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) free trade agreements and how these will affect ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Mr Amphaphone Sayasenh, Acting Director from Laos’ National Institute of Economic Research said the programme was really relevant in today’s context of value chains. “I think I have future-proofed myself in many areas such as e-commerce and potential integration that is what we face at work.”

Mr Phan Phuong Trinh Nguyen, Business Development Manager of An Minh Thuc Joint Stock Company agreed, “This is a truly valuable programme, not just because of the update of latest news, trends and data, but it has connected ASEAN countries together through representatives that participated.”

The course Managing Cross-border Trade & Value Chains Programme in Southeast Asia will run from March 19 – 22 this year, and April 8 – 11 in 2019.
