Creating Sustainability Impact

The Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at NUS Business School is proud to be the Knowledge Partner of the inaugural Sustainability Impact Awards 2023.

In a press release, Professor Lawrence Loh, Director of CGS, said, “In our quest for sustainability, it is essential that we go beyond the outputs and outcomes. Most critically, it will be the actual impact on people’s lives and their living environments that ultimately matters. Through the Sustainability Impact Awards, we hope to identify these role models who have made a real difference in advancing the frontiers of environmental and social impact, rooted in good governance.”

The Awards comprise the Individual and Enterprise categories. Under the Individual Category, the Impact Leader of the Year Award and Impact Leader Excellence Award will be given to recipients who lead and advance sustainability efforts. In the Enterprise Category, the Impact Enterprise of the Year Award and the Impact Enterprise Excellence Award are open for nominations, with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Large Enterprises as the two sub-categories.

As the Knowledge Partner, CGS develops the assessing criteria for the Awards. Besides demonstrating the significance and leadership in carrying out sustainability initiatives, individuals and enterprises need to show the scale, scope, duration and depth of their impact. Bonus points will be given for synergy with other parties and proven innovation of the project. As a pre-requisite, individuals need to demonstrate good governance, such as governing leadership, engagement of stakeholders and compliance with laws; while enterprises need to show good environmental, social and governance practices.

Nominees should be based in Singapore and meet other Terms and Conditions set out by the organisers.

“Overall, the nominees will be evaluated based on the social and/or environmental outcomes arising from their efforts. We hope the awardees will inspire more individuals and firms to adopt sustainable practices,” said Prof Loh, who is in the Awards’ judging panel chaired by Mr Lee Chuan Seng, Chairman of the National Environment Agency.

The other judges are Ms Chen Huifen, Editor of BT; Mr Chia Ngiang Hong, Group General Manager of City Developments Limited; Mr Jeffrey Siow, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Singapore; Mr Michael Tang, Head of Listing Policy & Product Admission, Singapore Exchange Regulation; and Ms Theresa Goh, Managing Founder of 360 Dynamics.

The Awards are open for nominations from 1 February to 31 March 2023. Winners will be announced in July.
