Business alumni giving back by mentoring students

Someone wise and unknown once said, “A mentor is someone whose hindsight, can become your foresight”. The NUS MBA Mentorship Programme is a flexible professional development programme bringing together current MBA students and alumni in an exchange of knowledge, information, insights and experience.

Meeting at least three times during a six to seven months mentoring cycle, it helps facilitate the development of relationships between NUS MBA students and its alumni community. This year saw more than 50 mentors including 12 new mentors coming on board.

On 1 March, the MBA Mentorship Programme Kick-Off event, with the theme of “Capitalising on your Mentorship: Beyond the Immediate Objectives”, brought together more than 50 participants where alumnus Mr Benn Ng (BBA 1989 ), currently the Head of FX advisory in Asia for Credit Industrial et Commercial Private Bank in Singapore, shared his experience on mentorship.

Benn shared how he felt mentees could tap on their mentors to achieve a higher level of professionalism in their chosen field. He further prescribed a 6 “C”s : Commitment, Contact, Communicate, Care, Consistency and Continue, for the mentor- mentee to make the most out of this partnership.

The team is so grateful to all mentors who are MBA and EMBA alumni who volunteer their time to help make this programme continue to thrive and be successful.
