Building Clouds and Relationships

The recent Asian Business Series webinar featured Kenneth Siow of Tencent Cloud International who shared the tech giant’s regional strategy.

Organised by Strategic Relations, the Series showcases Asian thought leadership for the NUS Biz community. Topics cover business trends and global issues that impact Asia.

Kenneth, Regional Director for South East Asia and General Manager, talked about fostering deeper stakeholders ties as Tencent builds its regional presence. The organisation’s strengths are in gaming, communications and fintech. It is also ramping up its infrastructure such as data centres across Southeast Asia.

Relationship building involves listening and adapting to each party’s requirements, he said. “We are also respectful of the local requirements from the regulators,” said Kenneth, who is a UCLA-NUS EMBA alumnus.

A diverse tech industry

For The NUS MBA candidate Steve Prawiromaruto who was the moderator at the webinar, the talk was a reminder on the benefits of an open market. “We usually think of Western players when it comes to cloud providers. But everyone has their own strengths and brings different things to the table,” he said.

Steve could also better appreciate the importance of networking after hearing Kenneth’s words on building relationships.  “These relationships can become valuable, precious long-lasting connections that can last well after my MBA,” he added.

But forming long-lasting connections is not the only thing Steve gleaned from the event. Like Kenneth, Steve wants to come back to NUS Biz to share his experiences after he graduates. “I would like to become a professional resource providing insights regarding my industry and expertise to help future students,” said Steve.
