Attending the MBA World Summit 2019

Some 100 MBA students from business schools around the world attended the sixth annual MBA World Summit recently. Hosted by the University of New South Wales in Sydney, the students discussed political, economic and social issues. This year, our NUS MBA students Shikha Malhotra and Yamini Sharma represented us at the Summit and shared with Outside-In their experiences.

When I first received the confirmation about representing NUS MBA as one of the students from across the world, I knew I was in for an experience of a lifetime.

Against the backdrop of the splendid Victorian architecture and the Sydney Opera house, I met some of the most inspiring leaders of today and passionate leaders of tomorrow. The three-day summit was packed with specially curated events like student-hosted Summit Laboratory sessions, panel discussions with CEOs, BIG Idea lounge for Flash Cases and of course, a closing Sundowner ceremony on a cruise ship (yes!).

During the Summit Laboratory Session “World without words – A mute team building workshop” that I hosted, a participant reflected saying, “Who knew this could bring us all together like a family!” And THAT is my biggest takeaway. When we respect and accept diversity in all its forms, we build lifelong bonds wherever we go, and that is where our real adventures begin.

This one is for flying the NUS MBA flag high and an adventure bookmark for life!

In the middle of an exciting albeit hectic semester, I was fortunate to be able to attend the MBA World Summit. As I boarded my flight, I was looking forward to the next five days but also sensed some trepidation – after all, I was to deliver a summit lab session and meet so many new people.

However, on arriving and meeting the other delegates, all my fears were laid to rest. The summit included some of the most driven, warm and insightful people I’ve ever come across. The next few days were spent exploring Sydney, exchanging ideas and having an absolute blast.

My greatest takeaway is a lesson I learned in my first week at NUS Business School – “Alone we know so little – it’s only when we make ourselves vulnerable and are open to learning from others, that we grow.”

Here’s to another chapter in my Business School journey and a step towards becoming a true citizen of the world.
