The NUS MBA Entrepreneurship Club kickstarted their first event in October, featuring Mr Merle Hinrich, Founder and Chairman of the Hinrich Foundation. He founded his company in 1970 with the firm conviction that free and mutually beneficial trade between East and West would help drive global economic prosperity.
An intimate dialogue with Mr Merle Hinrich of the Hinrich Foundation
Organised by the club’s president, NUS MBA student Celeste Zeng, brought together around 50 participants across NUS and trade SMEs to hear Mr Hinrich’s journey as a trade entrepreneur. Together at the session was Visiting Senior Fellow Alex Capri, where he and Mr Hinrich had an insightful dialogue about trade war’s impact and a new global trade model.
Celeste, who is also a Hinrich Foundation Scholarship recipient said, “I enjoyed the discussion of both micro and macro geopolitical relations and how that will affect us in Southeast Asia. Mr Hinrich also very succinctly distilled his entrepreneurship journey into simple but memorable principles such as “IMP” – Idea, Market and People. He also gave advice to those keen to be entrepreneurs to be inquisitive, take responsibilities and passionate about what he/she does.”
Celeste adds, “I’m honoured to be a Global Trade Leader Scholarship awardee. My mission to promote sustainable global trade and I am committed to a career in trade, in particular, digitising the supply chain and help traditional companies in trade achieve higher efficiency. As part of the scholar programme, I am proud to be the ambassador of the Sustainable Trade Index, which is an index that measures if such country’s trade system supports long-term sustainable development.”
The NUS MBA Entrepreneurship Club will be holding more networking sessions in collaboration with a few innovation eco-system builders in Singapore. This will be a great opportunity for the NUS MBA class to secure and learn more about upcoming internships opportunities in start-ups. Look out for that!
