Operations and information systems play key roles in driving Singapore’s Smart Nation infrastructure, according to Senior Deputy President and Provost Tan Chin Tuan Centennial Professor Ho Teck Hua, National University of Singapore (NUS).
Operating a network of sensors help provide the data needed to enable real-time analytics and responses, while a robust cybersecurity infrastructure keeps vital infrastructure safe, explained Professor Ho during his plenary speech at the Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (MSOM) Conference and Special Interest Groups Meeting 2019, held at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from 30 June to 2 July 2019.

Themed “Smart Operations in Smart Cities”, the conference was focused on designing, building and managing smart cities. Hosted by the NUS Business Analytics Centre and NUS Business School, the event brought together over 500 participants from all over the world, received over 300 papers upon call for submission.

The event is the MSOM Society’s key research event. The Society’s members include professionals from the field of operations management. The organisation promotes knowledge of operations in service and manufacturing sectors.

At the Special Interest Groups Meeting, speakers present their research papers covering the areas of Interface of Finance, Operations, and Risk Management (iFORM), healthcare operations, supply chain operations, service operations and sustainable operations. Some 300 MSOM members attended the sessions.
