A gathering of EMBA and MBA alumni in Asia

The NUS Business School Overseas Alumni Network currently spans across 5 continents and more than 50 cities, through our business school and university-level alumni chapters as well as alumni city representatives.

Recently, the alumni network team organised reunions with alumni across Asia – Taiwan (3 May), Vietnam (27 May) and South Korea (10 June). It was a time for old classmates to reconnect over good food and exchange business ideas.

Taiwan Alumni Chapter

The Taiwan Chapter Alumni Networking Dinner brought together some 100 alumni, students and faculty in Taipei. It was an opportunity for alumni from China and Taiwan and prospective students to meet up. The NUS EMBA (Chinese) students (Intake 25) also attended the event as it coincided with their Taiwan study segment.

The dinner also saw Taiwan Chapter Honorary President Robert Huang Po-Hung and Secretary Jack Lu Ko-Wen share their experiences at NUS Business School with the audience. Both Robert and Jack graduated from the NUS EMBA (Chinese) programme in 2013. Robert is the Chairman of the Board of Limitless IQ, while Jack is 1919 Food Bank’s Chief Strategy Officer.

The two told the audience that their Masters programmes enabled them to think out of the box when approaching challenges. They added that their NUS experience taught them the importance of adopting a sense of responsibility and purpose in their careers when serving their organisations and society.

Vietnam Alumni Chapter

Held in Ho Chi Minh City, over 70 alumni and guests attended both the dinner gathering, as well as a forum aimed at sharing insights of business dealings in Vietnam.

Themed “Vietnam: Global Challenges and Regional Opportunities”, the forum saw entrepreneur Ms Pham Thi My Le, consultant Mr Goh Boon Keem, as well as attorneys Mr Pham Duy Lam and Mr Mark Fridman sharing their experience and perspectives on Vietnam’s labour market, investment gateways and the legal aspects of investing or doing business in the country. Attendees were able to pick up tips on navigating the business terrain and harnessing opportunities arising from the Vietnamese markets.

Alumni and guests that flew in from Singapore were also invited on several corporate visits to witness upcoming investment projects first hand. These included the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park, CapitaLand’s development – The Vista, and IPC Vietnam. These provided alumni a unique opportunity to understand Vietnam’s investment environment as well as a platform to meet local business practitioners to exchange knowledge and ideas, and explore new business opportunities.

South Korea Chapter

Following the successful launch of the South Korea Alumni Chapter in April 2016, the South Korea Alumni Chapter committee came together once more in Seoul. This session brought together current students from the S3 Asia MBA programme and other South Korean graduates.

A special seminar titled “Wealth Management: Long Term Perspectives” was held for the 60 alumni and guests attending the event. Leading the session was former faculty member Prof Inmoo Lee, who is currently the KAIST Chair Professor of Finance at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. He shared his insights and knowledge on wealth management for individuals, as well as businesses, for both the South Korean market, together with global perspectives.
