EMBA, Class of 2009
Daniel Mathieson’s journey into the world of agriculture began with a childhood visit to a family friend’s farm. Watching the farmers’ dedication as they tended to crops that would eventually feed families sparked an enduring interest. That early exposure to the complexity and responsibility of agriculture quietly shaped his career path.
Over two decades at Zespri International, Daniel held key leadership roles, including Chief Executive Officer. His tenure there brought firsthand experience in navigating global market shifts, logistical challenges, and adapting to ever-changing consumer expectations. Leaders in agriculture often find themselves balancing these elements to maintain growth, and Daniel’s approach was marked by strategic adaptability and a focus on teamwork—qualities that have defined his leadership style.
At Driscoll’s, where he now serves as President of the Americas, Daniel has applied these lessons to guide the company through market changes. He champions collaborative problem-solving, understanding that effective leadership requires cohesive efforts across teams. His approach has helped Driscoll’s remain resilient and innovative, with sustainability at the core of its operations.
NUS Business School also played an important role in Daniel’s professional growth. The EMBA programme provided not only strategic insights but also a global perspective that broadened his approach to business challenges. The sense of community among his peers was a standout feature, offering shared experiences that continue to influence his leadership today.
In his current role, Daniel continues to expand Driscoll’s reach while prioritising quality and environmental responsibility. His focus on sustainable practices underscores the belief that successful agriculture should benefit both the market and the communities that support it.
