Tasos Kousloglou

CEO (Hotel Division), Sun Hung Kai Properties

MSc in Real Estate, Class of 2010

Tasos had always thought that he would work in the finance industry for his entire career. In fact, he joined Dutch investment bank ABN Amro (Asia) in 1999 right after graduating from university as an analyst. But life eventually took him through a different pathway.

After completing his military service in Greece, Tasos moved to Singapore in 2003 right at the height of SARS where he joined OUE Group in 2004 as an analyst, eventually assuming the role of Head of Asset Management. In the meantime, he not only completed a Master in Financial Engineering in NUS in 2008, he also obtained a Master in Real Estate in 2010 in NUS Business School.

When he was awarded a gold medal by REDAS (Real Estate Developers Association of Singapore), Tasos realised that the hospitality and real estate industries were his true calling. In 2010, he left Singapore to head the finance and asset management function of  Emaar Hospitality group in Dubai. A year later, he came back to Singapore as Head of Asset Management of the hospitality arm of JLL Hotels & Hospitality, where he developed a new asset management business line handling over 25 prime hospitality assets for key owners in APAC. During this time, Tasos continued his studies in another world class institution, Harvard Business School.

Having been raised in a small town in Greece and having studied in three different continents – Europe, Asia (Singapore) and the USA (Boston) – Tasos understands how important a life-long commitment to learning and self-improvement is.

“Dreams are made real by passion, persistence and pursuit of knowledge. My teachers in NUS taught me to think both locally and globally and make decisions in often challenging situations with a thinking heart. NUS as a school and Singapore taught me to embrace and promote diversity and always stay curious,” says Tasos. “As the famous ancient philosopher from my hometown in Greece, Aristotle, said more than 2400 years ago, ‘Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.’”

Currently, Tasos is the CEO of the Hotel Division of SHKP based in Hong Kong.

“Hong Kong and Singapore are two of the most international cities in the world and I will always be grateful to NUS and all my professors for helping me in my career journey,” says Tasos.
