An NUS Business School alumnus and donor, a former politician, a public servant, businessman, poet, photographer, artist, travel enthusiast, lyricist and a writer – Mr Peh Chin Hua is truly a man of many pursuits. His artistic and philanthropic passions converged beautifully at the recent launch of his new book, Wonders of Glaciers – Capturing the Beauty of a Moment.
Published by Shing Lee, the book documents Mr Peh’s travels to the frozen landscapes in Antarctica, The Arctic, Greenland and Iceland. Through his stunning photographs, readers are taken on an exquisite, visual journey into the frozen wonders of the world. His travels to these snowy landscapes have also inspired him to write poems which were turned into lyrics of songs played during the event.
In addition to the book launch on 30 September at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House, the event also showcased Mr Peh’s love for Chinese calligraphy and painting in an impressive panel of artwork and paintings. Graced by the Guest of Honour, Minister for Manpower, Mr Lim Swee Say, the event was attended by donors and alumni of NUS Business School in support of Mr Peh’s philanthropy.
Mr Peh Chin Hua, Executive Chairman of White Group and former MP for Jalan Besar graduated from NUS Business School Asia Pacific Executive MBA (Chinese) in 2002 and has been a prominent and selfless donor to the School ever since. He has not only personally donated to NUS, but has also referred several of his friends from the industry to donate towards bursaries for our needy students. Under Mr Peh’s leadership, his personal network and he has contributed over $2 Million to NUS Business School since 2003, including a 1-1 matching grant from the Government for equal amount raised.
“It is with this generous donation from Mr Peh that I am able to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me in the School. As the new semester begins, I hope to be able to excel in my studies and contribute more to the School community, so that I can make NUS a better place for others around me as well,” says Ng Kim Yong, NUS BBA undergraduate and recipient of Soh Ah Bak Memorial Bursary, one of the bursaries receiving donations from Mr Peh.
The book launch was an opportunity for Mr Peh to acknowledge and thank his friends and the community for their donations and supporting him in his philanthropic initiatives.
“Mr Peh Chin Hua is our distinguished alumnus – his literary and artistic achievements transcend into his selfless dedication, and his great love to his alma mater, the country and society. He sets a noble example for younger generation and empowers teachers and students alike to be compassionate. His zest for life and kindness have inspired people from all walks of lives who have supported him by donating. We are indeed proud of his outstanding achievements,” says Professor Susanna Leong, Vice Dean, Graduate Studies at NUS Business School.
